Convergence is upon us, and its nowhere more evident than in mobile phones. The latest models go above and beyond the duty of calls.

Six are reviewed here. Four work on GSM/GPRS networks, making them particularly useful to globe-trotters: the Motorola V600, Nokia 3620, Nokia 6600, and Sony Ericsson P900. The PCS Vision Video Phone VM by Toshiba and the Sprint PCS Vision Video Phone VM-A680 by Samsung support CDMA. All but the two Sprint phones offer Bluetooth connectivity.

Busy people might want to look at PDA/phone combinations like the Nokia 3620, a function-rich hybrid that accepts MMC removable storage, or the Sony Ericsson P900 with its versatile touch screen. The Nokia 6600 also has PDA-like functions and won an Editors Choice in its recent stand-alone review.

Those who dislike waiting for a phone to boot will appreciate how quickly the PCS VM4050 fires up, and those who want a phone that fits in a pocket have a friend in the PCS VM-A680. For style, ease of use, and a good speakerphone, take a look at the Motorola V600.
