Daily Video: Next Samsung Galaxy Smartphone Could Have Curved Screen

Samsung has unveiled a special media invitation to its “Samsung Galaxy Unpacked 2015” event, which will also be live-streamed, to show off the next Galaxy S smartphone that will become the company’s next flagship handset.

No details are included, just a stark black-and-white image that includes the text, “What’s Next” and a straight, shiny line that breaks into a curve at one end.

A successful launch for the next Galaxy will be important for Samsung, which continues to try to battle out of a sales slump due to competition with cheap smartphones from China and the release of the new and improved iPhone 6 models from Apple.

Qualcomm officials have released statements from a half-dozen smartphone makers that tout the Snapdragon 810’s performance, wireless connectivity and graphics capabilities.

Microsoft officials confirmed that the software company would leverage the chip in its upcoming Lumia devices, noting the two companies’ “longstanding collaboration.”

According to Cisco Systems researchers, by 2019, there will be 5.2 billion people worldwide using mobile devices and 11.5 billion mobile connections, which will help drive a tenfold jump in mobile data traffic around the world.

Mobile devices will be more powerful and the growth in machine-to-machine connections and increased access to 3G and 4G networks also will contribute to the rapid annual rise in mobile traffic, which will hit 292 exabytes per year by 2019.

These numbers are part of Cisco’s annual Visual Networking Index Global Mobile Data Traffic Forecast.
