T-Mobile has announced that, beginning Aug. 12, the HTC Touch Pro2 will finally be available in the United States on its 3G network.
The Touch Pro2, which resembles an iPhone-photos are available here-features a 3.6-inch “intuitive” touch display with a resolution of 480 by 800 pixels. Give the large screen a nudge, and it slides up to reveal a QWERTY keyboard, optimized for adult-size fingertips. Better still, once open, the tilting screen is adjustable.
In addition to the T-Mobile 3G network, connectivity is available over Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g, giving users access to Web browsing, e-mail, applications and video games.
There’s built-in GPS, Bluetooth 2.1, a 3.2-megapixel camera with auto-focus and video capabilities, and “single contact views,” which show a user’s full history with a particular contact, including past mutual e-mails and text and voice messages.
Also included is Straight Talk-which has nothing to do with a former presidential nominee and everything to do with tying voice capabilities to e-mail messages. Instead of typing out a long message, a user can place a call to all parties involved, taking advantage of the Touch Pro2’s speakers and noise suppression technology
The smartphone runs the Microsoft Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional operating system and includes a 528MHz Qualcomm MSM7200A processor. It measures 4.57 by 2.33 by 0.66 inches, weighs 6.3 ounces with the battery and has 512MB of ROM and 288MB of RAM on board.
According to T-Mobile, HTC’s TouchFLO 3D interface is deeply integrated into the operating system, for maximum consistency throughout menus and applications. Microsoft Voice Command capabilities are said to make it simple to locate contacts, get and make calls, play music, and perform other tasks.
“The HTC Touch Pro2 offers the most powerful productivity experience available on a mobile phone, while also delivering unparalleled elegance in both its exterior and user interface design,” Jason Mackenzie, vice president of HTC America, said in a statement. “HTC and T-Mobile have a history of introducing groundbreaking products, and this collaboration continues with the debut of this highly anticipated device to the U.S. market.”
Other HTC devices on the T-Mobile network include the T-Mobile G1 and HTC Magic and Hero, all running the Google Android operating system.
The Touch Pro2 will be available in T-Mobile stores and select other retail outlets in a finish called “mocha.” Pricing has yet to be made available.
