People working on the same project from different locations need to be able to exchange information. Virtual Ink Corp., of Boston, is expected to ship Mimio Xi, a digital whiteboard solution, later this month.

The collaboration product allows users to capture, edit and share whiteboard information electronically. The follow-on to Mimeo boasts a new form factor as a stand-alone appliance, plus flash memory and a battery-power option.

Mimio Xi is about the size of a digital video camera and has enough memory to record up to 10 hours of meeting notes.

The product doesnt require a PC but includes the LinkUSB module, which provides downloads from the Mimio Xi bar to a PC via Universal Serial Bus cable whenever the user chooses.

Pricing for Mimio Xi is $799.
