Netgear is expanding the range of its wireless networking products through a partnership with a startup smart- antenna technology company.
Netgear and Video54 Technologies have teamed up on a proprietary technology called RangeMax, designed to eliminate dead spots in home offices with few access points.
Meanwhile, Video54 is planning to use BeamFlex to deliver video over Wi-Fi for the home market, reasoning that video streams need constant, consistent bandwidth.
BeamFlex bests similar smart-antenna technology in that the offering is compatible with existing Wi-Fi standards and does not require new silicon, officials said.
