Teardown

In order to access the interior of the new iPad, iFixit needed heavy-duty suction cups to remove the display. The initial attempt, with guitar picks and a plastic opening tool, merely budged that front panel.

The new iPad’s LCD panel is lifted away, revealing the internal components.


Connectors

During the teardown, iFixit found that the display connectors for the new iPad were different from the ones used in the iPad 2, meaning the displays are incompatible.

Based on the model numbers on the back of the LCD, iFixit believes “this is a Samsung LCD.”
