RIM Partners Introduce New BlackBerry Apps

CHICAGO—Research In Motion Ltd. development partners rolled out a series of new wireless applications for the BlackBerry platform at the RIM Wireless Enterprise Symposium here this week.

• PalmSource Inc. announced a distribution agreement with RIM that makes BlackBerry Connect wireless e-mail and data services available to licensees of the Palm operating system. In December, the companies announced plans to integrate the BlackBerry Enterprise Server and BlackBery Web Client with the Palm OS.

• Sales force automation and customer relationship management solutions provider eAgency Systems announced plans to extend its new Web-based application for the property and casualty insurance market to the BlackBerry platform. Nice Office Property and Casualty provides Web access to underwriting and claims data and customer self-service, and automates rating and underwriting workflow. The wireless version will allow field agents, underwriters, carriers and claims staff to wirelessly synchronize data and communications.
• Epoch Integration Inc., makers of secure terminal solutions, announced a new version of NeedText Shell, a secure terminal access solution that uses BlackBerry handhelds to provide a remote command shell interface to servers, routers and other network devices. Version 3.0 adds the ability to manage AS/400 systems via BlackBerry and allows AS/400 users to work with applications through the softwares terminal emulation.
• Ecutel Systems introduced a software development kit and Java-based plug-in framework to ease the development of applications for its IC2 (Infrastructure Command and Control) remote enterprise management software.
• Security software provider PGP Corp. announced it was partnering with RIM to integrate enterprise-wide PGP Universal e-mail security with the BlackBerry wireless platform. The effort will allow customers using the S/MIME (Secure Multipurpose Internet Mail Extension) support package for BlackBerry to load X.509 certificates into the PGP Universal Server. The effort provides BlackBerry users with automatic e-mail encryption, decryption, digital signatures and policy enforcement.
• Diversinet Corp., a provider of secure mobile solutions, demonstrated the results of its partnership with RIM, showing a component under development for its Passport Trust Platform designed to simplify and speed the provisioning of Internet standard S/MIME software and digital certificates.
• Saratoga Systems announced a secure wireless solution for its iAvenue CRM suite that will allow BlackBerry handheld users access to customer information anytime, anywhere.
