Traveling Verizon Wireless customers no longer need fret about the quality, or existence, of Wi-Fi in hotels rooms, airports and beyond, according to Verizon. On Aug. 13 Verizon and ZTE USA introduced the AD3700 Mobile Broadband USB modem with global connectivity.
The AD3700 offers high-speed online access in more than 175 “destinations” via Verizon’s EvDO (Evolution Data Optimized) Rev. A technology. Compatible wireless platforms including GSM, GPRS, HSPA and UMTS (Universal Mobile Telecommunications System).
The modem, which is black with a rounded red outline, measures 3.1 by 1.7 by 0.5 inches, weighs 1.6 ounces and features a swivel hinge, making it easier to plug into a USB 2.0 slot in some instances.
The modem comes with VZAccess Manager software for managing connections and installation. Once users activate the “global feature” on their Verizon Wireless accounts, explains the carrier, the AD3700 will detect the fastest available network.
According to Verizon, this travel helper is now in stores for $79.99 after a $50.00 mail-in rebate and with a new two-year contract.
Like Sprint, Verizon offers the Novatel Wireless MiFi 2200, which uses mobile broadband to create a Wi-Fi cloud for up to five users.
