Facebook and Google aren’t the only two big-time social networking/Web services companies that stage developer conferences. Yahoo now has joined the party.

The Sunnyvale, Calif.-based company on Dec. 8 announced its first developer event, the Yahoo Mobile Developer Conference, which will take place Feb. 19, 2015, in San Francisco.

Yahoo, which acquired mobile-app analytics software maker Flurry last July, said it is renewing its focus on mobile app developers with this one-day event and will provide insights, guidance and solutions to navigate the complicated mobile app market.

Flurry supplies something Yahoo never had previously: the data-based engine and tools that can attract a community of mobile developers into working with the Yahoo brand.

Flurry helps companies better understand mobile users—its analytics software is in seven apps on a smartphone, on average—so that they can present them with the most appropriate and personalized ads possible.

With the data it collects from 150 billion app sessions per month, Flurry said it gathers the “deepest understanding of mobile customers,” which it helps publishers and developers use to “accelerate revenue and growth.”

Yahoo describes its mission as “re-imagining users’ habits” by building and supporting beautiful and inspiring mobile apps—which drive revenue via advertising and search.

At the Feb. 19 conference, Yahoo will announce and demonstrate a new suite of products to help developers better understand their users and improve, grow and monetize their apps, the company said.

Simon Khalaf, Yahoo’s vice president of Flurry Products, will be the featured speaker, presenting a “state of mobile” address. The conference agenda will include breakout sessions on key topics, challenges and products for developers.
