EmergeCore Networks delivers a complete IT solution in a simple-to-use appliance for small businesses and branch offices.

EmergeCores $1,395 IT-100 “IT in a Box,” released last month, is about the size of a small router, but it packs plenty of essential applications for running any small network, including a firewall, an e-mail system, a VPN, and file-sharing and wireless network services.

The system also comes with a Web site builder that enables administrators to easily create customized Web pages.

The IT-100 appliance is easy to set up, as I found when I ran the express setup wizard: I had my test network up and running in a matter of minutes.

Once initial configurations were done—a sluggish process at times—I used the CoreVista Web GUI to manage the box and monitor network statistics (see screen, left).

The IT-100 has a built-in four-port 10/100M-bps Ethernet switch and a single 10/100M-bps WAN port. In addition, the appliance includes an integrated 802.11b wireless access point.
