Add Hitachi to the ranks of VOIP gateway manufacturers.
The NT-4S from Tokyo-based Hitachi Communication Technologies Ltd. is a SIP (RFC3261) gateway with four CO-facing ports to packetize the voice traffic coming out of conventional PBX equipment.
The compact device measures 210 millimeters by 166 mm by 40 mm, weighs 1kg and is equipped with a G.711 (uncompressed, 64 kbps) and G.729a (compressed, 8kbps) voice codec. It includes a G.165-compliant line echo canceller.
The 10Base-T/100Base-TX system is priced at $1,684. The company plans to sell 20,000 units annually, with shipment slated for July 14.
