D-Link has packed the latest refresh of its flagship D-Link Express EtherNetwork DI-604 4-Port Ethernet Broadband Router with new tools typically seen in expensive solutions from networking giants.

The diminutive router, released last month, comes with integrated VCT (virtual cable tester) technology that enables users to trouble-shoot cabling issues. A diagnostic utility accessed via the products Web-based administration tool allowed me to easily detect connectivity issues without unplugging anything.

And the utility made life even easier by informing me of what types of cables I was using.

The DI-604 comes with multisession VPN pass-through capabilities, power-over-Ethernet support, IP and MAC address filtering, and URL blocking. At $49.99 suggested retail, its a bargain for home and small-office users.
