Enterprises across a range of industries now have the ability to tap into Verizon€™s 4G Long-Term Evolution (LTE) wireless network, which the company has integrated with end-to-end private networks. Verizon€™s Enterprise Solutions division is combining 4G LTE access, available in more than 200 U.S. markets, with its global Private IP network service to create a highly secure, high-speed, high-capacity business platform.

Available in both managed and unmanaged options, the Private IP Wireless (LTE) offering can extend corporate applications to mobile workforces and support new machine-to-machine business processes. The company€™s communications, cloud and security platforms are designed to help establish new business models, such as modernizing health care, energy and public safety systems.

Verizon said the technology can be used in variety of markets in both the public and private sectors, including transportation, where Verizon€™s network solutions aid train traffic management, as well as automotive and media and entertainment companies, where Verizon is helping businesses create new remote broadcasting opportunities and update digital signage to increase audience engagement with advertisers. In addition, Verizon said retailers could employ Private IP wireless as a backup solution across their distributed locations, as well as using the service to enable point-of-sale transactions, while vending machines can now alert distributors about when to replace high-demand products, and collect data about customer tastes and preferences.

“Verizon is delivering the new connected enterprise€”where both people and machines can communicate with one another and have a ‘voice’ in addressing industry-specific challenges,” said Kerry Bailey, senior vice president and chief marketing officer, Verizon Enterprise Solutions. “Whether it’s used as a reliable backup solution for ATMs or as a primary network solution for mobile video collaboration, this platform will introduce new revenue streams and help customers control costs.”

In a separate release, Verizon announced that it will cover more than two-thirds of the U.S. population when it introduces its 4G LTE network in 27 new markets and expands in 44 markets on April 19, offering network coverage in 230 markets across the United States.

By the end of 2012, the network will be available in more than 400 markets, and will be available to more than 260 million people in the U.S. In real-world, fully loaded network environments, 4G LTE users should experience average data rates of 5 to 12M bps on the downlink and 2 to 5 Mbps on the uplink, according to the company. When customers travel outside of 4G LTE-coverage areas, devices automatically connect to Verizon€™s 3G network.
