Commerce One Cuts Jobs
Commerce One plans to shed about 1,300 jobs, or nearly half its work force, through job cuts and the sale of business units. The company says it will eliminate 700 jobs and spin off several service operations affecting another 600 positions. Rumors are also swirling that SAP may take a bigger stake in the company. SAP already owns 20 percent of Commerce One.
Old Is New at Yahoo!
Yahoo! is revamping its shopping portal to include an area for buying used and overstocked merchandise. Yahoo! Warehouse will allow companies and individuals to sell used goods, along with excess inventory and clearance merchandise. Yahoo! plans to take a commission based on the selling price.
Going Extra MarketMile
MarketMile, an Internet purchasing exchange for small and midsize businesses, is launching an aggregated spending program for its users. Companies will be able to pool their spending budgets to negotiate better deals on products, supplies and services. American Express, one of the lead partners in MarketMile, says it will use its own purchasing clout to help negotiate discounts.
