Usinternetworking Inc. on Monday will launch a new managed service around payroll and payroll tax processing, an offering which grew out of its just-completed merger with Interpath Communications Inc.

USi will make the case that it has already built up significant momentum in the ASP space, having completed its Interpath data center migration, converted the top four Interpath customers to USi and signed on a handful of new clients.

At least one existing USi client saw no service disruption during USis data center consolidation effort that resulted from the merger, according to Myles Trachtenberg, CTO at IntraLinks Inc., in New York City. “After the move we saw performance improvements in the infrastructure. Everything has gone smoothly,” he said.

The new Managed Payroll and Payroll Tax Service leverages USis existing PeopleSoft hosting services to better integrate human resources and payroll functions.

“We created a link between our existing Peoplesoft HRMS (Human Resources Management System) and database with the new USi payroll and payroll tax function we created. Nobody else is integrating those functions and tailoring it to Peoplesoft,” said Chris Walker, senior director of corporate marketing at the Annapolis, Md., company.

Most payroll processing is outsourced to third-party providers such as Automatic Data Processing Inc. or Ceridian Corp. Walker asserted that the new payroll functions eliminate the requirement to export data to an external providers system, which can be a complex and costly process.

Payroll data can be accessed directly by USis certified payroll professionals from the existing HRMS system. Payroll managers can quickly make changes in employee status, accurately produce other time-sensitive reports, and track the ongoing payroll processes from their desktops.
