You can lead a closed horse source to water, but you can’t make it drink. That’s the lesson from the latest back-and-forth between Microsoft and the Open Source Initiative. An individual not working for Microsoft took the liberty of submitting one of Microsoft’s Shared Source licenses for OSI-approval. Microsoft immediately put the kibosh on the move. Seems to this Microsoft Watcher that Microsoft should take the next step and give open source more than just lip service, if the company really does intend to work and play more nicely with the open source community, going forward.
