Altiris Inc. will expand its partnership with Hewlett-Packard Co. this week with new integration between Altiris asset management and software deployment tools and three major OpenView products.
The company will announce at the HP Software Forum in Chicago that Altiris Connector for HP OpenView is certified for interoperability with OpenView Network Node Manager, OpenView Service Desk and OpenView Operations for Windows.
“We automate the reporting of assets up to OpenView Service Desk, and from the console, they have access to all our functions,” said Poul Nielsen, vice president of product strategy at Altiris, in Lindon, Utah. That level of integration previously required professional services.
Connector can populate OpenView Service Desk with Unix and Microsoft Corp.s Windows server inventory data. In addition, Altiris alerts from image deployments, software distribution and inventory discovery or HP client hardware monitoring can now be sent to both OpenView Network Node Manager and OpenView Operations consoles.
Altiris will also expand its partnership with the HP Personal Systems Group, which resells Altiris Deployment Solution with its ProLiant servers. HP will include a licensed version of Deployment Solution with its new HP Compaq thin-client t5700. The tool provides deployment, updates and maintenance for the thin clients.
Separately, Altiris will also detail a repackaged Server Provisioning Suite, which adds new patch management for servers as well as performance and availability monitoring to better support dynamic server provisioning.
“The idea is that if you want to do dynamic provisioning based on server load or application load, you have to monitor availability and performance to trigger that,” said Nielsen.
Server Provisioning Suite, which also adds new remote diagnostic functions, offers three levels of functionality, including configuration, incident and problem management, and change and release management.
