Brother International announced March 23 that it has launched its printer label series, the Brother QL Series, which is designed for health care professionals and lets them print customized 23mm laboratory slide labels and a variety of other label sizes.
The Brother QL Series consists of four models: the Brother QL 500/550/650TD and the Brother QL-1050. This printer label series will allow medical professionals to communicate test results clearly by allowing them to print 50 to 56 labels per minute that also prints 300 dpi (dots per image).
“Accurately communicating test results is critical for the medical decisions that affect patient care,” said John Biancamano, product manager of Bridgewater, N.J.-based Brother.
The Brother QL-650TD features stand-alone printing functionality as well as Time & Date labels, while the Brother QL-1050 is able to print on labels up to 4 inches wide at a print speed of up to 69 labels per minute.
The 650TD and QL-1050 also offer users an interface that allows them to connect to medical instruments, test equipment, postage scales, handheld terminals and other stand-alone devices.
The labels print directly from Brother labeling software including Pathlogix Anatomic Pathology software and Microsoft Word files.
Each printer in this series also includes P-touch Editor label design software, P-touch Address Book software, Windows and Mac Printer drivers, a USB cable and starter label rolls, all designed to give medical and laboratory professionals a true printer label platform.
“The Brother QL Series label printers can help to reduce the mistakes that occur when handwritten labels are misread,” Biancamano said in the same statement.
The Brother QL Series is available now. Pricing depends on which model a user orders. The Brother QL-550 has an estimated street price of $129.99; the Brother QL-650TD has an estimated street price of $199.99.
