Canon U.S.A. announced three new color-enabled and black-and-white models of its imageRUNNER multifunctional product line Nov. 1, with its imageCHIP architecture that allows faster, simultaneous processing of multiple jobs in an attempt to keep customers who are switching from monochrome to color.

Intended for large workgroups that need high-volume black-and-white and the ability to restrict and control high-quality color print, the imageRUNNER C5068/C5058 models include color scanning, copying and sending, plus optional color network printing.

ImageRUNNER C5058/C5068 models update an earlier color-enabled series and should help Canon “hold onto its No. 1 share position in the fast-growing color copier market, which is expected to grow at a CAGR [compound annual growth rate] of 18.8 percent through 2011,” said Jonathan Bees, director of Digital Peripherals Solutions Consulting Service at InfoTrends.

” We’ve improved the finishing options on these models, and the pricing is lower than the previous models,” said Jessica Mikitovic, product manager, Enterprise Systems Division at Canon. The C5068 and C5058 replace the older 6870U and 5870U models.

The imageRUNNER 5050 adds a new lower-speed, lower-cost model to Canon’s black-and-white imageRUNNER line. By offering the same C/Z finishing options as the new color imageRUNNER models, “We’re bringing light production finishing options into a 50-page-per-minute machine for the general office environment,” Mikitovic said.

Additionally, Canon announced on Nov. 1 two new models of its facsimile-based multifunction laser class device, the 830i and 810, intended for use as high-speed network printers, black-and-white copiers and printers, and network color scanners in a variety of file formats, in addition to providing Super G3 high-speed facsimile.
