Fujitsu introduced the new LifeBook MH380 on Dec. 21. Arriving in January, the mininotebook will be among the first to offer Intel’s new Atom N450 processor. Built on the 32-nanometer platform, the processor was code-named Pine Trail.

The glossy, red MH380 has a starting weight of 2.97 pounds, runs Microsoft Windows 7 Starter (and offers a 60-day Microsoft Office Home and Student trial) and has a 10.1-inch high-definition display with a resolution of 1,366 by 768 pixels.

Atheros 802.11 b/g/n wireless is built in, and there’s a 10/100 LAN card, RealTek Ethernet and Bluetooth connectivity, plus a 250GB hard drive, 1GB of RAM, an integrated Webcam and up to 7 hours of battery life with the standard six-cell battery.

A fixed configuration will be priced at $449.

“The LifeBook MH380 mininotebook represents the next generation in this class of product. Users will experience better performance while maintaining a very lightweight, affordable PC,” Paul Moore, Fujitsu America’s senior director of mobile product management, said in a statement.

‘The LifeBook MH380 mininotebook combines the new Intel Atom Processor and Fujitsu know-how to create a highly reliable, energy-efficient mobile platform that enables mobile users to get more done while constantly on the go,” Moore said.

On Dec. 21 Intel also offered more details about its new Atom platform, which includes the Atom N450 processor and the NM10 Express chip set for netbooks. The platform is said to include integrated graphics capabilities and a memory controller, which should lead to better performance and energy savings of up to 20 percent.

Intel said it has more than 80 netbook design wins for the technology from manufacturers including Fujitsu, ASUS, Acer, Dell, Toshiba, Lenovo, Samsung and MSI.

Accordingly, Dell also had news Dec. 21: the introduction of the Inspiron Mini 10 netbook, also featuring the Atom N450, which is also due to arrive in January. (Intel says the platform will be available Jan. 4 2010.)

Dell also pairs the 2.7-pound netbook with the option of Windows 7, as well as entertainment options, such as Broadcom Crystal HD for streaming HD video.
