Gateway has a new netbook offering, the LT2000. Available in several configurations, it includes an Intel Atom processor, a 10.1-inch TFT LED-backlit display and iPhone-like touch-pad capabilities.
The 2.62-pound LT2000 comes in NightSky Black or Cherry Red, measures 10.17 by 7.24 by 1.03 inches and focuses on what netbooks do best: surfing the Web, offering access to multimedia, and connecting with family and friends.
The Gateway LT2000 netbooks “let customers do more with their time on the go-from enjoying the Internet to video chatting and staying in touch via e-mail and social networks,” Ray Sawall, senior product marketing manager for Gateway, said in a statement.
One configuration, the Gateway LT2001u, runs the Microsoft Windows XP Home operating system and includes an Intel Atom N270 processor (1.60GHz, 533MHz FSB, 512KB Level 2 cache), an Intel 945GSE Express chip set, 1024MB of DDR2 (double data rate 2) and 533MHz SDRAM (synchronous dynamic RAM), a 160GB 5400RPM hard drive, an integrated Intel graphics media accelerator 950 and a multi-in-1 card reader.
The netbook is 802.1l b/g Wi-Fi-certified, and includes a Webcam, two stereo speakers, Dolby headphone technology, three USB ports and a three-cell lithium-ion battery that’s good for up to 3 hours of battery life.
More notable than the battery life, perhaps, is the LT2000’s Multi-Gesture Touchpad, which instead of a traditional touch-pad operates more like an iPhone: Swirl a finger in a circular motion to scroll through Web pages, pinch fingers together to minimize or spread pinched fingers to zoom in.
The suggested retail price begins at $299.99.
The Gateway LT3100, an 11.6-inch netbook Gateway released on June 23, features AMD’s Athlon 64 L110 chip and retails for around $399.
