For the first time in the history of the eWEEK Excellence Awards program, we decided to name one product the overall winner.

We knew that we couldnt say any one product was “the best” and, with more than 800 products categorized almost 20 ways, we were right. (We might as well have been comparing apples to, well, ele-phants.)

But we wanted to give credit to the product and its vendor that we felt best demonstrated attention to present and future customer needs through the applications of innovative technology.

That product is Lenovos ThinkPad X60 Tablet, which has a long list of compelling features including Intels low-voltage Core Solo/Core Duo processors, support for 802.11n and WWAN (wireless WAN), an anti-glare/anti-reflective screen thats suitable for indoor and outdoor use, en-cryption chip, and physical hardening.

Helping our Labs analysts and editors make this selection were members of our Corporate Partner Advisory Board—IT professionals who lend their insight to eWEEK staff.

As one of the corporate partners said, “Lenovo did not create the [tablet] category or feature set, but they did perfect it. Many have tried to get it right, and Lenovo did.”
