Lenovo is unveiling the ThinkCentre M77 desktop, which is designed for business professionals and offers a host of security and data-access management features.
Aimed at professionals in large businesses and public-sector customers, the ThinkCentre M77 desktop, announced Oct. 29, sports an Advanced Micro Devices FX-series processor, along with support for multiple monitors. IT managers can also access Dash 1.1 manageability, serviceability via enhanced tool-less chassis and an improved level of energy efficiency. Prices start at approximately $439.
Available in either tower or small form factor, the M77 can be configured to meet users’ needs, according to company officials. As one of Lenovo’s Enhanced Experience 2.0 desktops, the M77 boots up in less than 30 seconds. Additionally the desktop comes equipped with Serial ATA III, which enables hard drive data transfer at up to twice the speed of SATA II. To allay concerns about data loss, the desktop comes standard with Dash 1.1 manageability, which allows IT administrators to remotely manage the desktop. For example, they can control power settings, conduct inventory and update the desktop. The M77 also features USB port disablement and well as TPM 1.2 encryption.
“Previously, this level of processing performance has only been available in premium PCs,” Tom Shell, vice president and general manager of Lenovo’s commercial desktop business unit, siad in a statement. “The ThinkCentre M77 desktop with the new AMD FX-series processors provide mainstream users a noticeable productivity difference, while simultaneously giving IT administrators the ability to manage the desktops remotely and easily service them.”
The desktop also offers optional AMD Radeon discrete graphics. Via AMD Evefinity technology, the ThinkCentre M77 desktop can support up to four displays, including its primary monitor. Additionally, it includes DisplayPort for exporting high-definition video content to view on another device, while retaining VGA output for standard video. The desktop also comes with up to 16GB high-speed DDR3 (double data rate type three) memory, up to 1TB hard drive storage and up to eight USB ports and a DVD player.
For IT managers with an eye on green technology, the desktop also highlights Lenovo’s focus on designing more environmentally responsible and low-power products. It meets the new Energy Star 5.2 standard for energy efficiency, featuring select power supplies that are up to 90 percent efficient. EPEAT rates the ThinkCentre M77 desktop gold for its environmental attributes, and GreenGuard has certified it to meet its standard for air quality.
The company also released a new addition to its all-in-one desktop PC lineup for consumers-the Lenovo C325. The desktop features a 20-inch LED-backlit display with optional multitouch touch-screen support; integrated stereo speakers supporting SRS Premium Sound; and IdeaTouch, a package of touch-optimized multimedia applications that allows consumers to tap and flick through multimedia files,
The all-in-one PC includes high-speed memory, an optional USB 3.0 port, storage and expansion capabilities, and Lenovo’s Rescue System, which helps combat data mishaps by restoring lost or corrupt data files. Rounding out the package is Lenovo’s Eye-Distance System (which alerts users when they’re too close to the desktop screen) and Dynamic Brightness System (which automatically adjusts screen brightness to the ambient light conditions in the room).
