Here are the emerging technology stories for the week of July 16th.

SunRocket Shuts Down – As I’ve mentioned previously, I use Vonage for my home phone service. I’ve been watching the whole patent battle with Verizon with a bit of worry and now it looks as if one of my fall back plans has disappeared. SunRocket, another home service VOIP provider, is shutting down.

Miro Over Democracy – The open PC video and TV tool known as the Democracy Player has been rebranded as the I guess the more innocuous sounding Miro player. Kinda sad that the word “democracy” has become loaded with negative connotations for people on both the right and the left.

Study on Impact of RFID Use Released – Interesting RFID study released by the European Parliament that looks at the broad effects of RFID, both negative and positive for businesses and people.

New Bionic Hand – An interesting and impressive new bionic hand technology created by a Scottish engineer.
