BMC Software Buys Network Associates Unit for $47 Million

Network Associates Inc. said it agreed to sell its help-desk software unit, Magic Solutions, to BMC Software Inc. for $47 million as part of an effort to focus on its core network security business. Magic Solutions accounted for about $14.4 million, or 6 percent, of the companys third-quarter revenue of $226.9 million. Network Associates, best known for its McAfee antivirus software, has seen its performance lag its main rival in the high-growth security business, Symantec Corp.
