IMLogic Inc and SurfControl both announced new products for spam-blocking and security at the RSA Conference 2003 in San Francisco.

Instant messaging management software developer IMLogic Inc. announced new software for blocking viruses and spam in IM.

IM Manager 5.0 adds security, content filtering, and anti-spam protection to existing control, reporting, archiving and compliance capabilities, officials of the Waltham, Mass.-based company said.

New capabilities include out-of-the-box virus scanning and selective file transfer control; keyword blocking and notifications to ensure that IM is used for business purposes; spam identification tools and controls to block unwanted messages.

The software is built on an open architecture to integrate with other security products, IMLogic officials said. The spam- and virus-blocking capabilities will be extended to IMLogics IM network partners, including America Online Instant Messenger, Microsofts MSN Messenger and Yahoo Messenger, officials said.

Also at RSA, SurfControl launched e-Mail Filter 4.6 with new spam-blocking and content security capabilities.

These capabilities include Embedded File Management so that organizations can identify unauthorized files or images that have been embedded in other documents as a way of circumventing security; Multi-Language Dictionaries to filter content in English, Dutch, French, German, Italian and Spanish; and expansion of Anti-spam Agent categories to highlight content categories most often found in new spam, such as finance, dating and personals, and novelty software.

There are also new fail-over and load balancing management capabilities to support continuity for larger enterprises over 20,000 users and better reporting capabilities to assist with system management.
