Micromuse of San Francisco said on Friday that it is buying GuardedNet Inc. of Atlanta, Ga., for $16.2 million.
The acquisition will add GuardedNets security and risk management technology to Micromuse Inc.s Netcool system management software suite, according to a Micromuse statement.
GuardedNet is a 6-year-old, 42-person company that sells SIEM (security information and event management) technology.
A growing area of interest and investment, SIEM software tools allow organizations to manage and filter the enormous amounts of information created by security point products like firewalls, intrusion detection tools and VPN (virtual private network) devices.
GuardedNets neuSECURE product suite can aggregate logs from various security devices and do incident correlation and response in real-time.
The product also comes with reporting and audit tools tailored to regulatory regimes such as HIPAA, Gramm-Leach Bliley and Sarbanes-Oxley.
Micromuse will integrate GuardedNets neuSECURE product family into its Netcool suite, allowing them to monitor network infrastructure, network performance and security posture on a single platform, the company said.
The acquisition is expected to close by the end of September.
