Symantec said Feb. 7 that it reached an agreement to buy Relicore, which makes change and configuration management software for corporate data centers. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Relicore, of Burlington, Mass., makes Clarity, which is software that can scan a companys servers.

Symantec plans to use Relicores technology with its server management and storage management technology to help companies assess and manage their applications and servers, the company said.

Clarity discovers what applications are running on a companys servers, tracks configuration information and maps interdependencies between different servers and applications.

Companies use Clarity to create inventories of their IT assets and avoid disruptions from configuration changes, as well as comply with regulatory requirements.

The Cupertino, Calif., company plans to combine Relicores technology with its Veritas OpForce server provisioning product to automate server management.

Symantec expects to complete its acquisition of Relicore by mid-February, the company said.
