Symbol Technologies on Thursday announced its acquisition of Trio Security, a private software company based in Colorado Springs, Colo.
Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Trio Security Inc. specializes in handheld security software, including product called Trio Vault that boasts a “three-factor” authentication system. The product consists of a software key, a password and a third, software-based personal verification tool such as handwriting recognition.
Trio also owns patents for a biometric verification system as well as various encryption technologies, which Symbol will acquire.
Symbol Technologies Inc. will integrate the Trio software into its new Mobility Software Division. The first step will be to integrate some of the Trio features into Symbols AirBEAM Safe security software.
“Youll see a new AirBEAM type release before the end of the year,” said Lee Williams, vice president and general manager of Symbols mobility software division, in Holtsville, N.Y. “You can look to next year for other integration efforts.”
Next year, the company plans to add an authentication tab to its Mobility Services Platform (MSP) management software suite, Williams said.
Trios software will play a major role in Symbols security roadmap for the next three years, he added.
