Here at eWEEK, we’re focused on putting technology in perspective for enterprise IT buyers to help them make decisions about which products, services and computing models will be most effective for their companies.

Each year, the eWEEK Excellence Awards allow us to do that with hundreds of products in a very concentrated effort. But what the program also allows us to do is raise money for an organization that-among many other things-uses technology to help young people learn and grow in a safe and positive environment: the Boys & Girls Clubs of America.

With this year’s Excellence Awards program, eWEEK will continue its tradition of donating the proceeds from the entry fees to Boys & Girls Clubs of America clubhouses that map to the offices of eWEEK’s parent company, Ziff Davis Enterprise.

The donations-made to clubhouses in Lawrence, Mass., New York and San Francisco-are made in support of the use of technology in the clubhouses.

In the past, the donations have been used to purchase new computers, maintain Web sites and fund the salary of a technology teacher.

Find out here the winners of this year’s eWEEK Excellence Awards.

The origins of the Boys & Girls Clubs of America go back to 1860, when women in Hartford, Conn., organized the first clubhouse to provide a safe alternative for boys roaming the streets.

In 1906, several of these Boys Clubs decided to affiliate-the start of a national movement. In 1931, the Boys Club Federation of America became Boys Clubs of America, and, in 1990, the national organization’s name was changed to Boys & Girls Clubs of America.

Today, the Boys & Girls Clubs of America organization is still offering a positive environment for young people, providing programs that address some of the most pressing issues of the day and teaching kids the skills they need to succeed in life.

Along with programs that focus on the environment, health, the arts, careers, gang prevention, leadership development and athletics, the Boys & Girls Clubs provide technology training and-perhaps more importantly-consistent access to technology.
