eWEEK Labs Walk-Through: Oracles New Linux

From the boot screen on the install media, Oracle starts off an Enterprise in lieu of Red Hat Enterprise that continues though the distribution.

Say hello to Linuxs new little friend.

Oracle may not be the first or even second organization to clone RHEL for redistribution, but Oracles commissioned some pretty new art.

This is a straight clone of the installation type page in RHEL, but we wonder if any desktop deployments are on Oracles radar.

Again, this page should be familiar to the Fedora and RHEL users out there.

Itll be interesting to see how Oracle fares as a source of Linux know-how.

Oracles Linux is free to download, but updates will apparently cost you.

Will Oracle vie with Red Hat to develop new directions for the platform, and how well might those efforts integrate with Red Hats upstream work?

Back to the generic Enterprise Linux moniker.

Oracles license agreement carries the same trademark provisions as does Red Hats RHEL agreement.

Oracle Linux means another enterprise win for the GNOME desktop.

Same as the Red Hat Network alerter, with a little unbreakability thrown into the name for good measure.

We downloaded the distro freely, but well have to see about obtaining a CSI.

If Oracle maintains a no free updates stance, well probably stick with CentOS for much of our eWEEK Labs testing.

It will be interesting to see how well Oracle with compete with Red Hats rather nice RHN online service.
