D-Link, an end-to-end networking solutions provider for enterprises and SMBs, announced that the company’s xStack DGS-3400 series, xStack DES-3528/52 series and DGS-3610 chassis series switches have received IPv6-Ready Core Phase-2 Logo certification from the IPv6 Forum.
Receiving the IPv6-Ready Phase-2 Logo signifies that the switches have satisfied all of the IPv6 Forum’s compliance and interoperability requirements. The switch series are IPv6 capable and interoperable with other standard-based products in a multivendor environment that support IPv6 functionality.
According to the latest industry estimates from IVPv6 Forum, founded in 1999 by the IETF Deployment WG to drive deployment worldwide, the supply of new IPv4 addresses available from the regional Internet registries will run out in 2011. IPv6 fixes this problem by expanding the pool of available IP addresses by using 128-bit addresses. IPv6 also provides built-in security as well as network management and mobility enhancements. D-Link argues that the growing demand for IPv6 support from government agencies, educational institutions and corporate entities has become much stronger.
AJ Wang, chief technology officer at D-Link, said the launch of IPv6-Ready Phase-2 certified xStack DGS-3400 series, xStack DES-3528/52 series and DGS-3610 chassis series switches is further proof of D-Link’s commitment to providing its customers with best-of-breed technology applications to power up their network environments without incurring high costs.
“These IPv6-enabled switches provide a secure network environment; specific vertical markets such as government and educational institutions could especially benefit from the attributes that IPv6 technology provides for secure data communications,” Wang said.
The IPv6 Ready Logo series of tests were progressively enriched. Compared with Phase-1, the Phase-2 logo verifies optimum compliance because it expands more “core IPv6 protocol” tests and adds extended test categories. Earlier this year, the D-Link DGS-3200 series and DGS-3600 series xStack Gigabit managed switches received IPv6-Ready Logo Phase-2 certification. The company said it is continuing to dedicate more of its resources and efforts to obtain IPv6 Ready Logo Phase-2 certification for a wider range of product lines and to support more IPv6 features.
The D-Link xStack DGS-3400 series, xStack DES-3528/52 series and DGS-3610 chassis series switches are the L2/L3 Gigabit solutions for business/enterprise and vertical markets. All of these series offer manageability, security and reliability functions. They provide current IPv4 networks with a migration path to IPv6 and help protect businesses’ investments for future network upgrades when greater security and larger addressing are required. The IPv6 multicast host, the latest in protocol technology, enables maximum hardware performance, according to D-Link.
