    Daily Video: Lenovo Rolls Out ThinkServers for SMBs

      Since acquiring IBM’s x86-based System x business, Lenovo has become the world’s third-largest server maker. However, the company isn’t putting aside its own ThinkServer portfolio or its focus on small and midsize businesses.

      It recently rolled out its next-generation ThinkServer RD350 and RD450 rack systems that are designed to give SMBs with limited space and budgets flexible, scalable and affordable options.

      The systems, which are available now, come with new software for easier management around such tasks as configuration, deployment and power management.

      Broadcom, Brocade, Aruba Networks and Avaya have founded a new industry consortium aimed at accelerating the adoption of 2.5 and 5 Gigabit Ethernet in enterprise-level wireless products. This is meant to speed up the movement of traffic over wireless networks.

      The new MGBASE-T Alliance—which also includes Freescale, Delta Electronics, Delta Networks and others—is throwing its support behind the efforts of the IEEE, which has formed a study group to look at 2.5G and 5G.

      IBM’s Digital Analytics Benchmark, which tracks online shopping transactions, showed that this year’s Cyber Monday sales were up 8.1 percent over the same period on Cyber Monday 2013.

      IBM reported that as of 6 p.m. EST on Dec. 1, mobile traffic accounted for 38.3 percent of all online traffic on Cyber Monday. Consumers ability to conveniently cash-in on online bargains was one of the key drivers the of 2014 Cyber Monday sales trends, according to the Digital Analytics Benchmark report.

      Firefox 34 is now out, and with it, users gain new search and communication features as well as fixes for eight security issues. This is the first Firefox release since Mozilla’s announcement on Nov. 19 that it was ending its decade-long search partnership with Google.

      In Firefox 34, Yahoo is now the default search provider for users in the United States, while Yandex is now the default search engine in Russia and Baidu is the default in China.
