Business communications specialist Fonality today announced the general availability of Trixbox Pro 5.2, a hybrid-hosted IP-PBX software solution designed for small to medium-size businesses (SMBs). A hybrid-hosted solution combines a premise-based VoIP system with a hosted-cloud model. The company said the platform could help users increase productivity and lower the total cost of ownership while leveraging Unified Communications (UC), contact center and VoIP calling features.

Trixbox Pro 5.2, available only through certified Fonality resellers, is an open standard, software-based IP-PBX platform that can be delivered with most commercial servers and SIP phones. The platform delivers access to the company’s Heads Up Display (HUD), a UC dashboard that includes features like click-to-call, visual call parking, secure chat and real-time employee presence.

The company said a user’s physical location is irrelevant to the ability to have multiple numbers associated with a single user license and access Fonality’s “FindMe” features and noted multiple HUD servers can be connected company-wide, regardless of location, to enable presence, secure chat, virtual conferencing and a unified contact center experience.

“With Trixbox Pro 5.2, we can offer our customers a scalable and reliable UC solution,” said Brad Pitt, executive vice president of sales and marketing, American Technologies, LLC. “It is extremely cost effective and with new features, such as Fonality HUD, enterprise organizations now have the flexibility to grow with their business regardless of physical location. Fonality’s solutions enable American Technologies’ resellers to help SMBs communicate at an enterprise level at a price they can afford.”

By leveraging multi-core and multi-threaded processing, users can experience greater platform stability and a more responsive, faster operating system, and Fonality provides a diagnostic view of communications systems and allows administrators to analyze any device for recent calls to obtain metrics such as latency, jitter and packet loss.

“The Trixbox Pro 5.2 platform couples reliability with flexibility and underscores our focus on meeting the specific communications needs of SMBs,” said Fonality’s chief marketing officer, Wes Durow. “We know business-owners want to ensure they have the latest features but do not want their technical staff to be occupied with unnecessary network configurations and maintenance. With the hybrid-hosted capability of Trixbox Pro 5.2, SMBs can leverage their existing communications infrastructure investments while liberating staff from previously overwhelming system upkeep and maintenance.”

The company’s “2011 Small and Medium-Sized Business Communications Plans and Priorities” state-of-the-market report recently polled proficient professionals considered to be on the “leading edge” of technology adoption. Respondents emphasized that cloud-based business applications or AaaS (Anything as a Service) will be increasingly embraced to control costs, and ROI is a key factor in their decision-making.

The survey, conducted by Webtorials, focused on the communications needs of midmarket companies and found ROI of increased productivity from office communications is the most compelling factor in technology adoption, with 88 percent citing “maximizing working capital and/or cash flow” as a major factor in SMB technology decisions.
