Technology digital resourcing provider Mondo reported that CIOs and CTOs lead the list of the highest-paid technology professionals in 2015, with salaries ranging from $170,000 to $250,000—an increase of approximately 9 percent from their salaries in 2014.

According to the findings of the company’s annual technology salary guide, beyond the CIO/CTO position, the technology jobs with the highest salaries in 2015 include chief security officers (CSOs), with salaries ranging from $146,000 to $214,000, and chief data officers, who can expect to pull down $143,000 to $200,000.

Following that, was the position of vice president of IT, with a salary range from $137,000 to $178,000, then vice president of engineering ($136,000 to $177,000), program management office (PMO) director ($123,000 to $177,000) and then Scala developers ($115,000 to $177,000).

“In today’s tech market, where the IT pro can be pickier than ever with the opportunities that he or she chooses to take, we are seeing more and more people value work flexibility,” Laura McGarrity, vice president of digital marketing strategy for Mondo, told eWEEK. “This flexibility can often be seen in emerging markets. Phoenix; Raleigh, N.C.; Los Angeles and Seattle are all markets that are giving the IT pros the salaries as well as the work flexibility that they are working for.”

McGarrity noted these cities come with career opportunities without the high cost of living seen in more developed tech hubs like New York and San Francisco, and allow IT pros work flexibility and a lower cost of living all while providing the same types of salary potential.

Microsoft Dynamics, Oracle application developers and SAP, Salesforce and Sharepoint developers were also in high demand in the business application development sector, while database administration specialists saw base salaries rise between 2 and 6 percent.

Specialists in the big data and cloud computing fields also saw salaries go up, with cloud engineers pulling in $108,000 to $142,000.

At the top of the heap, salary-wise, in the technical support and system administrator category were systems engineers ($83,000 to $134,000), and help desk managers, which showed a large range ($79,000 to $129,000) in salary.

McGarrity also noted mobile has touched nearly every business regardless of industry or size.

“Every consumer is mobile-focused, which has created an area of expertise that is in high demand,” she said. “The market is demanding mobile talent, and consultants and contractors are looking to meet that demand by taking their skill sets and making them cross-functional across mobile platforms.”

The report, based on Mondo’s 3,500 placements over the last year, noted the next steps for continual progress in the tech industry will be beyond the platforms, software and systems, and it will be in the minds of those who inhabit the industry, pointing out just a quarter of women hold technology positions in the United Sates.
