Merant plc. announced Monday the release of Merant Collage, an application that manages Web content in collaborative environments and provides integration between Web content management and management of the applications and code that create that content.

In addition to providing an interface for employees to update Web content, the software also provides automated workflow control and a deployment engine. Because Merant Collage allows teams of employees to manage the development, writing, editing and approval stages of content, organizations can tailor workflow to match internal processes.

The software also keeps an audit trail of changes to site content. It provides a browser-based WYSIWYG content editor and can also interface with other vendors authoring tools, such as Microsoft FrontPage and Macromedia Dreamweaver. Contributors get automatic notifications of tasks that need approval.

Collage integrates with Merants PVCS Dimensions and Version Manager products to tie together code and content management and deployment, which company officials said automates testing and publishing cycles to improve efficiency.

Merant Collage is available now. Base pricing is $45,000 for five concurrent users. Merant is based in St. Albans, England, with U.S. headquarters in Hillsboro, Ore.
