Uptime Software announced an updated version of the company’s systems management software, up.time 5. Through collaboration with VMware and its vSphere and vCenter Orchestrator offerings, up.time 5’s enhanced capabilities hopes to change the way enterprises manage, measure and monitor their VMware infrastructure.

The company said the software drives performance and cost-savings by providing IT managers with an unobstructed view of the data center to manage distributed applications and global services levels. Some of the capabilities announced today include advanced visibility, deep VMware metrics and reporting, automated problem resolution and incidence avoidance.

Former Gartner analyst and current CEO of APM Experts Bernd Harzog said the new version of up.time combines several unique attributes into an easy-to-use enterprise monitoring package. “up.time supports a broad array of physical infrastructure in IT, while also providing advanced and unique VMware specific features,” Harzog said. “This deeper integration with VMware vSphere, including automated problem resolution and automated problem avoidance, will help customers who need to leverage VMware but want to manage other systems like Windows, Unix, etc., with one tool as well.”
Other features include automated incidence avoidance that reduces manual find/fix by automatically heading off reoccurring problems before they happen and seamless integration with VMware vCenter Orchestrator, which the company said makes building out automated problem avoidance workflows easy, providing advanced capabilities for SMB and Enterprise companies. The updated software also brings improved visibility and manageability of the entire infrastructure from a single console, including virtual and physical infrastructures and applications, and across multiple data centers.
Mobile video specialist QuickPlay Media, an Uptime client, said the management software was easy to install and improved efficiency. “In our business, having the ability to easily monitor our infrastructure and applications from a common vantage point is essential,” said Dan Labelle, IT Operations manager, QuickPlay Media. “Since day one we’ve been impressed with the functionality and continued support for our BEA applications and VMware tools. Aside from the value derived from the specific features, the product is easy to use and administer — our upgrade from up.time 4 to version 5 was seamless and took only 10 minutes to complete.”
