Storage vendor 3PARdata announced Dec. 5 its 3PAR InServ Storage Servers will support HP Serviceguard, a high-availability software platform from HP that provides automatic failover capabilities for clustered HP-UX servers.

“3PAR eliminates the customary compromises customers must make between traditional modular or monolithic storage,” David Scott, president and CEO of 3PARdata, based in Fremont, Calif., said in a statement. “For customers who require high availability on HP platforms, 3PAR Utility Storage opens the door to even higher levels of storage simplicity.”

Deploying HP Serviceguard often includes using costly monolithic storage systems in an attempt to provide high levels of storage performance, scalability and high availability, 3PARdata officials said.

However, more affordable modular storage alternatives can mean increased downtime risk to application service levels. Company officials said 3PAR Utility Storage resolves the monolithic-versus-modular dilemma with a massively scalable, clustered architecture that offers high and stable levels of performance even under failure conditions.

3PAR InServ Storage Server support for HP Serviceguard is available for HP Integrity (Itanium) and HP 9000 (PA-RISC) server platforms, including HP Superdome.

“We rely on HP Serviceguard with HP-UX and 3PAR to support our mission-critical Oracle(R) infrastructure, which is central to our On-Demand Enterprise and Ariba Supplier Network offerings,” Dan Grillo, director of hosting at Ariba, based in Sunnyvale, Calif., said in the same statement. “With 3PAR, we no longer have to trade off simplicity and efficiency in order to get scalability and high availability in our storage.”
