BlueArc, known for high-performance network-attached storage, is expanding its product scope. The companys new MTS, or multitiered storage, modules give users the option of running parallel ATA, instead of Fibre Channel, drives.

Due to their lower cost, ATA drives are becoming a popular alternative to tapes for midrange storage and speedy backup and recovery.

The modules, in 2- and 12- terabyte increments, are for BlueArcs Si8000 series. The drives are from Maxtor and Hitachi Global Storage Technologies and are available now. BlueArc pricing starts at under $50,000.
