Data storage titan EMC enhanced its already-quite-profitable relationship with another IT giant, Microsoft, March 5 with the launch of new software and services designed to augment the performance of SQL Server 2005 and Exchange Server 2007.

EMC is now offering SQL Server enterprise users advanced optimization, planning and data recovery services, a company spokesperson said.

The idea is to ensure that both the storage infrastructure and the surrounding application environment can meet the demands of heavy duty applications on the SQL Server data platform—before the storage is installed for production purposes.

The following new services, announced March 5, aim to help users accelerate and lower the risk of upgrading or migrating to Microsoft SQL Server: Design for Microsoft SQL Server Data Warehouse Infrastructure Solution; Readiness Assessment for Microsoft SQL Server; Upgrade Implementation Service for SQL Server; Database Recovery for Microsoft SQL Server; Performance Optimization for Microsoft SQL Server; Application Optimization for SQL Server; and Business Intelligence Planning for Microsoft SQL Server.

EMC, of Hopkinton, Mass., also released new custom software that protects e-mail by managing Exchange application security and document-level information rights, while also ensuring the right level of data protection for the underlying network and storage infrastructure.

This new package addresses the key user initiatives of providing a reliable, secure messaging infrastructure based on Exchange Server 2007 that can meet service-level requirements and scale to meet growing enterprise needs, an EMC spokesperson said.

It is based on a combination of EMCs data protection and recovery technology, RSA SecurID capabilities, and the expertise of EMC Global Services, the spokesperson said.

Finally, EMC introduced new Exchange Server 2007 support with EMC Replication Manager 5.0 SP1; Exchange Server 2007 support for EMC NetWorker Module for Exchange; Microsoft Volume Shadow Copy Service (VSS) support within EMC NetWorker; and VSS Client for Microsoft Windows Server 2003.

EMC Joins Interop Vendor Alliance

EMC also announced its participation in the Interop Vendor Alliance, a community of software and hardware vendors working together to enhance interoperability with Microsoft systems.

The Interop Vendor Alliance is a global, cross-industry group of software and hardware vendors that work together to answer customer demand for enhanced multi-vendor interoperability with Microsoft systems.
