Not everything being unveiled at the 2014 International Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas necessarily involves consumers.
For example, LenovoEMC Limited on Jan. 6 made available two new network storage systems of up to 16TB of capacity for small and medium-size businesses or enterprise regional offices that are built to be utilized by line-of-business employees.
Each of the new systems — one for desktops, one for small data centers — offer higher-end enterprise features, despite their smaller packages.
The LenovoEMC px4-400d — “d” is for desktop — Network Storage is a high-performance, four-bay desktop NAS that delivers advanced data protection in addition to local and remote content sharing utilizing LenovoEMC’s own LifeLine operating system. This one is barely larger than a toaster.
The rack-mounted px4-400r Network Storage, is a 1U, four-bay server-class NAS designed for growing small- to medium-sized businesses and distributed enterprises. It can work inside any type of data center environment.
The px4-400d desktop unit utilizes hot swap 7200rpm SATA-III Server Class drives in a compact form factor with up to 16TB in storage capacity (4 x 4TB) and up to 25 percent higher data read and write performance than the previous generation of product, LenovoEMC said.
In Europe, Latin America and Asia Pacific, the new px4-400d is also available in a Pro Series utilizing economical standard HDDs. A diskless version of the new px4-400d is also available worldwide.
The px4-400d is compatible with Windows, Macintosh and Linux devices, and its LifeLine operating system incorporates advanced business features that professional users expect, including built-in cloud compatibility, versatile remote access, virtualization, data replication, device-to-device copy jobs, advanced RAID support, and solid state drive support.
New hardware features include HDMI, eSATA and USB 3.0 ports for versatility of use, the company said.
Third-party applications from industry-leading software developers will automatically appear as an icon in the LifeLine OS system management interface when they are released, including EMC Avamar backup client, McAfee VirusScan Enterprise, ATI Lite from Acronis or the optional Acronis Backup & Recovery for LenovoEMC NAS, as well as Milestone Arcus Video Surveillance.
Pricing for the px4-400d desktop version starts at $729.00 for the diskless model. The rackmount px4-400r starts at $1,399.00 for the diskless model. Both the Server Class Series and Pro Series for both models are available with 1TB, 2TB, 3TB and 4TB HDDs.
