Simplicity to Reign Among Offerings at SNW

Enabling simplified controls for multivendor storage environments, storage vendors are rolling out a host of tools targeting areas such as lagging response and recovery times, protected data backup, and iSCSI accessibility.

From April 12 to 15 at SNW (Storage Networking World) in Phoenix, Sun Microsystems Inc. will announce a major platform upgrade to its flagship StorEdge 6920 modular storage array, sources said.

Enhancements are expected to include upgraded mirroring and snapshot features, as well as heterogeneous virtualization capabilities.

The Santa Clara, Calif., company launched the array last year.

At SNW, Advanced Digital Information Corp., of Redmond, Wash., will announce the Pathlight VX450, a disk backup appliance for midrange storage environments that is due this month.

Offering 4.2TB of disk capacity presented as a virtual tape library to applications, the product features integrated tape support for ADIC Scalar libraries and policies to protect data, said ADIC officials.

For its part, FalconStor Software Inc., of Melville, N.Y., will launch the next version of its VirtualTape Library, offering a new tape-caching feature for migrating data from disk to tapes, based on user-defined policies.

The new version supports Storage Technology Corp.s StorageTek Automated Cartridge System Library software, IBMs 3583 Tape Library and 3580 drives for that companys iSeries, Novell Inc.s SuSE Linux Enterprise Server 8.0, and tape library caching.

Targeting e-mail backup and restore, Toronto-based Asigra Inc. will announce that its agentless Message Level Restore module now allows users of Microsoft Corp.s Exchange and Outlook, IBMs Lotus Notes/Domino, and Novells GroupWise to restore and protect individual and group e-mail messages without disrupting the e-mail server.

Delivered as a managed service in Turnkey, Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery modes, Arsenal Digital Solutions Worldwide Inc., of Cary, N.C., will unveil ViaRecovery, its new rapid server recovery offering that provides a speedy bare-metal recovery of server operating systems, applications, files, configurations and data, said officials.

Network Executive Software Inc., or NetEx, a StorageTek spinoff in Maple Grove, Minn., will unveil at SNW its efforts to extend its HyperIP TCP acceleration technology into the iSCSI storage arena, enabling customers to achieve up to tenfold improvement in long-distance remote data replication.

To address compliance woes, NTP Software, of Nashua, N.H., will release its Compliance Vision product.

The software offers six feature sets: Overview, General Audit, Operational Audit, Detailed Investigation, System Status and Items of Concern, said officials.
