CNTs FICON Director Integrates MAN and WAN

CNT this week unveiled a Fibre Channel/FICON director that the company said is the first to offer integrated metropolitan-area network (MAN) and wide-area network (WAN) capabilities. The FC/9000 can support long-distance applications using high-speed interfaces at “virtually unlimited” distances, CNT said. Potential customer applications include business continuity, data center migration and consolidation, remote disk mirroring, remote tape backup and recovery, data archiving, and consolidation of storage and servers. This is CNTs first new product since its merger with Inrange.

Startup Persist Launches Content Appliance

Persist Technologies this week announced AppStor, a plug-and-play appliance that offers immediate active-archiving for secure storage and instant retrieval of data from any location at any time, the company said. The product addresses major issues associated with the growth, storage and retrieval of enterprise content and reference information, including email, office documents and rich digital media, the company said. AppStor for Enterprise Email is the companys first out-of-the-box solution.

HP Offers Iomega Zip 250MB Drive with Desktops

Iomega this week announced the Iomega Zip 250MB ATAPI drive is now a configure-to-order (CTO) built-in option for the new line of Hewlett-Packard Co. Compaq Business Desktop d330 series and d530 series computers. The drive can transfer data up to 2.4MB per seconc, the company said. HP will also offer a drive option kit for resellers that specialize in desktop integration services, as well as for customers who wish to perform their own drive replacement.

Avnet Brings HP Storage Services To VARs

Avnet Hall-Mark will make Hewlett-Packards storage services available to solution providers under a new program the distributor unveiled this week. Among the tools is the Network Storage Advisor, a software application that allows solution providers to plug into a users storage environment to get automated, accurate assessments of that environment. Solution providers can use the information to advise customers on how to expand their storage infrastructures, said Tony Vottima, vice president and general manager of Avnets HP Business Unit. Avnet is also offering HP implementation services to solution providers via its SAN Implementation Specialist program, Vottima said. Under this program, HP solution providers can become certified to either resell HP storage services, which are then implemented by HP, or provide the implementation themselves.
