Storability Updates Global Storage Manger Software

Storability Software Inc. this week announced the availability of the latest version of its enterprise storage resource management (ESRM) program, Global Storage Manger 3.6. In the update, IT managers now have the ability to view all libraries from one screen and gather vital statistics on performance, library capacity and utilization, media utilization, trending, error logs, and more. This allows IT managers to quickly identify exactly which tape is in which drive, and easily locate the necessary tapes when performing a restore operation.

Maxxan Unveils Storage Networking Switch, Appliance

Maxxan Systems Inc. is looking for solution providers with disaster-recovery experience for its new intelligent application switch. The MXV320 switch, available this week, incorporates a director-class switch with up to 320 ports. It can be configured with up to 16 programmable multiprotocol line cards for use with such protocols as Fibre Channel and Gigabit Ethernet, said Ravi Chalaka, director of marketing at Maxxan Systems. The MXV320 starts at $33,278.

Philips Licenses Sony Memory Stick Technology

Royal Philips Electronics this week announced that it is licensing Memory Stick technology from Sony for use in its Nexperia portfolio of programmable silicon on chip (SOCs) and system solutions for multimedia applications. By bringing this storage technology to other consumer devices such as digital TVs and liquid crystal display (LCD) TVs via Nexperia, consumers will be able to easily enjoy their multimedia content through various appliances in the home, the company said.

IQ Biometrix and Network Storage Nix Merger

Law enforcement software maker IQ Biometrix Inc. said its dropping plans to buy Network Storage Solutions Inc., a maker of software thats bundled with data storage hardware. The all-stock deal would have been worth more than $17.3 million based on the May 2 closing price of IQ Biometrix stock. Both companies believe that there remain benefits to maintaining a strategic relationship.
