PERIPHERALS

The data centers air conditioning may still cut to the bone, but American Power Conversions rack-mounted flat-panel monitor and keyboard drawer gives system administrators a slender console that provides comfortable access to rack-mounted server systems—albeit at a hefty price.

APCs super-slim monitor and keyboard drawer is only 1U (1.75 inches) high, and it has an LCD with a 14-inch viewing area, a compact keyboard with a roller-ball mouse and wrist pads. The entire package costs $2,495, which is quite steep, considering that LCD monitors cost less than $1,000 nowadays, and Recortec at www.recortec.com offers a similar product for $1,495.

More information on the APC flat-panel console can be found at www.apc.com.
