1. AndroidScan

From Jeffrey Sharkey, AndroidScan allows users to find prices and reviews for anything with a bar code. It shows CD, DVD and book covers, along with detailed reviews from Amazon.com. It also searches more than a dozen stores, highlighting nearby brick-and-mortar institutions, with options for calling the store or getting directions.

Google just wrapped its Android Developer Challenge, with judges awarding $25,000 for each of the 50 best applications created. No one can be sure whether these apps will catch fire and gain traction when Android handsets hit the market later in 2008, but here is a sample of what to expect.
