Cognos announced Dec. 19 that its Cognos 8 Go Search business intelligence tool will support the new enterprise search software offering from IBM and Yahoo, IBM OmniFind Yahoo Edition.

This combined offering from Cognos, a Burlington, Mass., BI software developer, along with IBM and Yahoo will allow users to find and view information that is controlled by Cognos 8 BI and other information that is stored across an enterprise.

“Todays announcement speaks to the agility of the BI search platform that weve enabled with Cognos Go,” said Rob Rose, chief strategy office at Cognos, in a company release.

Using Cognos 8 Go Search , IBM OmniFind Yahoo Edition will enable business users to search and access critical information that is stored within organizations as well as across the Web, providing users with a view of dashboards, reports, analyses, metrics information and other important business information.

“Enterprise search is an important capability all organizations should have,” Jon Prial, vice president of content management and discovery at Armonk, N.Y.-based IBM, said in the same release.

With this new BI software platform, users will be able to locate applicable Cognos 8 BI content in context with other applications and business processes, enabling businesses to view their company performance as they can view other BI environments, corporate intranets, web sites and enterprise content management systems.

This will also enable business users to analyze risks and identify new opportunities in which their respective company can be productive.

“Cognos and IBM are delivering solutions to help customers find information across an enterprise, no matter where it resides, to recognize business opportunities and become more agile,” Prial said.

Rose believes that this combined offering brings out the best in Cognos and that the company continues to deliver a valuable search platform for the business world.

“The approach weve taken continues to provide the fullest and most flexible search solution for enterprise customers,” Rose said.

Cognos 8 Go Search is available now and pricing and licensing are part of the existing Cognos user-role based licensing.
