AssetMetrixs hosted PC inventory service made it very easy and convenient to collect hardware and software information about our desktop systems. The service is more suited to small or midsize enterprises because it depends on a greater degree of oversight to ensure that users actually carry out the inventory process, which usually requires a few simple, albeit manual, steps.

SHORT-TERM BUSINESS IMPACT // After training users to respond to e-mail requests to run the inventory agent, the AssetMetrix system should be a very low-cost operation. Version 2.0 makes it possible to incorporate asset data from machines that arent connected to the Internet, making the service even more attractive than before.

LONG-TERM BUSINESS IMPACT // AssetMetrix will add very little cost to IT or users over the long term. It takes only a couple of simple steps to initiate and respond to an inventory request.

PROS // Simple to set up and run; agent works quickly to gather comprehensive system and software information.

CONS // Windows-only service; reports lack flexibility.
