Simpler, Safe Remote Access

SSL VPNs are quickly gaining ground because of their simplicity and easy accessibility.

For years, physicians at Lancaster General Hospital in Pennsylvania wanted to be able to access and check their patients status and medical records from home if they were concerned or if a call came in the middle of the night signaling trouble. Hospital IT administrators wrestled with this request, trying to find the best solution for remote access to their network.

"Give me a dashboard; give me a portal. Thats what the doctors all said," recalls Terry Grogan, the hospitals operations and technical-services director. "They wanted to see something that looks like the Web. I wanted to give them something very easy."

Grogan found the answer in an SSL remote-access appliance. The 1U, rack-mountable Neoteris Access 1000 is connected to the hospitals network, giving hospital employees who are at home or on the road secure access to everything from e-mail and clinical systems to patient rounds lists and test results.

The boxs high level of security makes Grogan happy, and the doctors at Lancaster General get the simplicity they asked for. "The user interface you get with this device looks like a portal," she says.
