Certified Wireless Expertise
Certified Wireless Expertise Wireless technology might be just hitting its stride, but certification providers are forging ahead. Here are some vendor-neutral certs available or in development from GlobalNet Training Solutions Inc., of Dallas, and Planet3.
CWA (Certified Wireless Administrator) Provides expertise in implementing and managing wireless networks. Candidates should have prior networking experience and must take a recertification exam every three years.
CWSE (Certified Wireless Security Expert) Will certify expertise in designing, deploying and maintaining secure wireless infrastructures. Course includes an overview of wireless technologies and specific risks that wireless technologies pose. This is a dual-certification program paired with CWA.
CWNA (Certified Wireless Network Administrator) Available now, CWNA certifies expertise in wireless networking and the skills to administer, install, configure and trouble-shoot wireless network systems.
CWSP (Certified Wireless Security Professional) This certification, still in development, builds on the foundation of WLAN knowledge provided by CWNA. CWSP covers the hardware, software, protocols, procedures and design techniques used in reducing WLAN security risks.
CWNE (Certified Wireless Networking Expert) Also in development, CWNE will certify advanced WLAN skills. Individuals master all relevant skills to design, install, configure, administer and trouble-shoot wireless network systems. An in-depth understanding of wireless and wired network technology is essential to pass the CWNE exam.
CWNI (Certified Wireless Network Integrator) This will certify wide expertise in wired/wireless network integration and the advanced skills necessary to install, administer and trouble-shoot wireless network systems, including switching, routing, WLAN and network design, packet analysis, and WLAN deployment. This certification is still in development.
